As we are sure that everyone is aware the hurricane season is upon us again, here are just a few tips we recommend for staying safe and preparing your apartment before evacuating.

• Start emptying your fridge! That frozen pack of shrimp would make a great pasta dinner for tonight.

• Unplug all electronic devices. If the power is lost, when it is restored sometimes there is a surge that can destroy that new laptop or even cause a fire.

• Remove any items from your porch or balcony. Those could become flying weapons in wind gusts.

• Take any of your important documents with you. This is the time to make sure you have a lease copy and any insurance documents at hand.

• Remove valuables from the apartment, take those with you.

Please do not take our or the cities precautions lightly. As you all know the city is still very weak and a strong category two or three hurricane could put us right back to where we were three years ago. We are most importantly concerned for the safety of our residents as well as our properties and what to do everything possible to protect both.
